Block play drew the group outside after lunch. One child built a tower four high, named it, and rebuilt it after it fell note 1, while two others turned the leftover blocks into a road for the trucks note 2. Persisting after a knock-down, and a plan shared between two, were the learning of the afternoon note 1 note 3.
The day goes fast. Writing it down shouldn't be the slow bit.
Jot what you saw in a few seconds, on your phone, even at the park with no signal. Later, when you've got a minute, BowerBook helps turn those jots into the learning stories, planning and summaries you're meant to have. It uses only what you wrote. Nothing gets made up.
Free for beta educators while the beta runs. No card needed.
Three taps. Done.
Open Jot from your home screen, tap the child, say or type what happened. That's the whole job. The writing-up can wait until the kids have gone home, or not happen at all, because most of it's already done.
It only writes what you saw
When BowerBook drafts a story or a summary, every line points back to one of your jots. If you didn't write it down, it doesn't get invented. No charts, no comparing one child with another. You read it, fix what you like, and press approve.
Families get what you send. Nothing more.
Nothing goes anywhere until you press send. Each family gets their own private link, and they can write back. No app for them to install, no password for them to forget. Where your records live.
A day, the BowerBook way
You do the noticing. It does the sorting.
- Jot it
At the sandpit: "Leo built a tower, knocked it down, laughed, built it again." Photo. Save. Back to the sandpit.
- Our day
Around pick-up time, your jots become one story of the day for the group. No child is named. You read it, change what you like, approve it.
- The cycle
When a child's jots add up, Sum this up drafts the next step of their planning cycle. You finish it in your own words.
- Families
Send a story, a note or a whole portfolio. They reply, and the reply goes into the child's record too.
- Up to date
First aid due? Drill overdue? One list, in plain words, so nothing sneaks up on you.
It shows its working
Here's the thing about AI and children's records: it will happily write a lovely paragraph about a child who did nothing of the sort. BowerBook won't. Every line of a draft points at the jot it came from. No jot, no line.
- Learning outcomes are linked for you, down to the detail an assessor looks for.
- Planning-cycle entries follow the stages ACECQA uses, and each one picks up where the last left off.
- Nothing is final until you've read it and pressed approve. Nothing is sent until you press send.
Your families, your call
You decide what each family sees and when. Send a story on a Friday, a portfolio at the end of term, or a quick note because something lovely happened and Mum would want to know.
- Each person gets their own private link. It expires, and you can switch it off.
- Photos go out with the phone's location and camera details stripped.
- Families can reply. What they say lands in the child's record, marked as from the family.
- All about me and What's new at home: short forms families fill in from a link, when you ask.
- Consent is recorded the way it really happens: on paper, in person or by text. You note it, and the app remembers who said what.

The stuff that sneaks up on you
First aid. CPR. The evacuation drill you were sure you did last month. Insurance. Working with Children. The risk assessment for the library outing. About 25 of them, in one list, in plain words, with what's due and what's overdue.
Each line says which regulation wants it, for the day the assessor asks. Western Australia's rules are built in; other states are coming.
One plan. No levels to pick.
A$29 a month for your service, A$29 a month for each educator, GST included. Everything's in it. Free while you're in the beta; the price applies once sign-up opens.
Built in a real family day care, not a boardroom
BowerBook was built beside a working family day care service in Western Australia, one jot at a time, and shaped by whatever got in the way that week. It follows the EYLF V2.0 and MTOP, ACECQA's planning cycle and the National Regulations, because that's what you're assessed against. But you'll mostly notice that it's quick.
Things educators ask us
Does it work with no signal?
Yes. Jot sits on your phone's home screen like any app. With no signal, a jot waits on the phone and sends itself when you're back in range. You won't notice.
Which frameworks does it follow?
The EYLF V2.0 and MTOP, chosen per child. Planning follows ACECQA's cycle. The paperwork list follows the National Regulations. You don't have to look any of it up; it's built in.
What does the AI actually see?
The name a child goes by, their age in years and months, and the jots you've written. Never a surname, a date of birth, a photo, or anything about the family. And nothing at all about a child until their family has said yes and you've recorded it. The full list.
Can I take my records with me if I leave?
Yes, any time, in one download: every record, photo and poster. If you stop paying, your service goes read-only. It's never deleted, and you can still export.
I'm with a scheme. What does my coordinator see?
Only what you choose: a one-page summary of where your documentation is up to. Your jots, your children's records and your families' replies stay yours.
Will it do my job for me?
No, and you wouldn't want it to. It writes drafts from your own words, reminds you what's due, and keeps everything in one place. The noticing, the judgement and the relationships are still you.
